Golf Course Review

Blairgowrie Golf Club is an inland golf course north of Perth and northwest of Dundee in the Perthshire countryside dating from 1889. There are three courses here: Rosemount, Lansdowne and the Wee.

Blairgowrie Golf Club Rosemount Course

Alister MacKenzie was called upon to lay out the Blairgowrie Golf Club Rosemount Course in 1914. Due to the breakout of WW1, construction was postponed and would open for play 13 years later in 1927. His iteration would only last 3 years before James Braid was brought in to redesign the course. The course has been improved over the years with Major Chalmers, Donald Steel, Peter Alliss and Graeme Webster making the changes.

The Wee & Lansdowne Golf Courses

There are two other courses and 27 holes in addition to the fabled Rosemount.

The Wee Course is a rare 9 hole James Braid design which incorporates some of Alister MacKenzie's original holes. The second hole on the Wee course, named Fairy Dell, is Tom Doak's pick of the 45 on offer.

The Lansdowne is a Dave Thomas Peter Alliss layout from the 1970s.

Conclusion

While many will have to be persuaded to drive away from the coast, Blairgowrie offers golf worth leaving the links for. Frank Pennink describes it as Scotland's finest inland course and should be a course on everybody's priority list.
