Golf Course Review

Nefyn & District Golf Club is located on the Porthdinllaen headland on the Lleyn Peninsula on the Welsh coast of the Irish Sea.

Founded in 1907 as a 9 hole course, it would be extended in 1912 to 18. With alterations made by JH Taylor in 1933 and Fred Hawtree more recently it would take Howard and William Swan to make the Point what it is today.

Nefyn & District GC Loops

  • Front Nine - Also known as the Yellow. Along with the Red, it makes up the Championship Course. It begins inland, makes its way to the coast then returns inland.
  • Back Nine - Also known as the Red. Along with the Yellow, it makes up the Championship Course. This nine-hole loop is predominantly made up of inland holes.
  • Point Nine - Also known as the Old or Blue. Despite not being part of the 'Championship Course' this is the reason why you've made the trek. This nine-hole loop has been called the Pebble Beach of Wales but has some strong similarities to Old Head.

The Point/ Old/ Blue Hole By Hole

1 - 327 Yards Par 4 - The Irish Sea lies right of the fairway. You hit into a generous fairway before hitting to a monumental plateau green.

2 - 129 Yards Par 3 - A short, downhill one shot hole with green well guarded by bunkers.

3 - 157 Yards Par 3 - Another clifftop one shot hole with a carry across the Sea.

4 - 411 Yards  Par 4 - An epic 240 carry over the bay. Imagine an elevated 1st at Machrihanish... on steroids.

5 - 158 Yards Par 3 - Downhill tee shot from the top of the coastguard tower to a bunker-less green.

6 - 320 Yards Par 4 - An uphill, blind Cape tee shot to green - you guessed it - to a cliffside green.

7 - 180 Yards Par 3 - Long downhill one shotter over a massive pothole which fills at high tide.

8 - 502 Yards Par 5 - Uphill three-shot hole with requisite cliff top tee and approach shots.

9 - 324 Yards Par 4 - Uphill two-shot hole with no cliffs to be found anywhere!

Be aware you can only play The Point at allocated times. See the website for details to avoid disappointment.
