Golf Course Review

The Wisley Golf Club is built on 224 acres of Surrey countryside just outside the M25, the club is located beside Wisley Common and RHS Garden Wisley. A modern club with all the amenities and state-of-the-art facilities a tour pro could ask for, The Wisley is a modern club owned by its members.

The Wisley Synopsis

A 27 hole venue is made up of three nines named The Church, The Garden, and The Mill. No matter which nines are played together, they combine for a par of 72. The golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., opened for play in 1991.

The Church’s namesake is from the historical Wisley village church built in 1150. There are three separate lakes as well as a watercourse that comes into play on holes 4, 5, and 6.

The Garden is considered by most to be the toughest nine. So named due to four of its holes bordering the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS Wisley Gardens) and separated by the River Wey.

The Mill is named after Ockham Mill, a short distance up the river Wey which affects play on three holes. Mill has generous landing areas from the tee but what is given off the tee is taken by the undulating greens.

The practice facilities are a big draw for the tour professionals. Grass practice tees are to be found along with covered bays for rainy days or winter months. There is also a performance center with TrackMan and SAM PuttLab.

There should be a large proportion of good two-shot holes and at least four one-shot holes. There should be little walking between...
