Golf Course Review

It would appear the original Castlegregory Golf Links appeared in 1897 and disappeared around 8 years later. It would be more than 80 years before the idea of golf would be revisited.

A local, Maurice Fitzgerald, called a general meeting where it was decided that 57 acres would be rented beside Lough Gill, near the village of Stradbally overlooking Brandon Bay in County Kerry.

Work commenced on a 9 hole links golf course in 1989. Dr. Arthur Spring designed the course and Mr. Michael O'Shea was the construction manager. A 12 man crew was recruited for the work. The 9 holes are comprised of three one-shot holes, five two-shot holes, and a single opening par 5.
