Golf Course Review

High Post Golf Club is located between the medieval cathedral city of Salisbury and Amesbury in Wiltshire, England. The course is found between the Cranborne Chase AONB, North Wessex Downs AONB and the New Forest National Park. Built in 1922, it is the handiwork of Fred Hawtree and JH Taylor.

Free draining chalk downland make it a good bet for dry winter golf or firm and fast summer golf. The outward holes run clockwise along the external boundaries of the site itself with six of the first seven holes bordered by the boundary left.

The inward nine contrasts slightly being more compact, having more back and forth parallel holes. The two three-shot holes are found in the first six holes. The back nine consists of 7 two-shot holes and two one-shot holes.

The 18 hole course measures just over 6300 yards and plays to a Par of 70. The club boasts of 72 bunkers but it is the grassed hollows that will leave the biggest impression. One can only imagine how incredible this course could be with limited cuts and short grass surrounds...
