Synopsis

The full title is St Andrews The Evolution of the Old Course – The Impact on Golf of Time, Tradition & Technology. Not exactly pithy but an apt description of what it’s all about.

The book dwells on the relationship the course itself had on golf. It then turns its attention to the effect technology and time has had on it.

The book has 8 chapters. Chapters 2 through 5 use the eras of balls as benchmarks. The gutta-percha, then the Haskell, two, three and four-piece balls and finally the multi-layered ball.

Read this along with St Andrews – How to Play the Old Course for academic knowledge of the home of golf – The Old Course at St Andrews. Perhaps the most credible endorsement for the book is the fact you were able to purchase St Andrews – The Evolution of the Old Course from St Andrews Links Trust itself.

Further Reading from Scott Macpherson

Scott Macpherson also penned Golf’s Royal Clubs which documents the relationhip of the R&A, the Royal Household and golf.
