World Class Golf

West Sussex Golf Club is one of golf’s most complete sets of 18 strategic holes. Fascinating features, superb bunker placement, gorgeous vistas and a charming and warm atmosphere makes West Sussex a must-play and solidly fixed amongst the world’s best. Moreover, held to be designed by the 3 Majors, there is evidence to suggest Tom Simpson may have had a hand. West Sussex Golf Club and Evalu18 collaborated on the story, which can be found by clicking here.

Walton Heath Golf Club – Old Course sets the bar for Surrey heathland golf. How good is this Herbert Fowler designed golf course? James Braid designed 400 golf courses. In his 45 years as golf professional at the club, he refused to alter the masterpiece. In addition to golfing royalty gracing the club, numerous King’s and Prime Ministers have been members. It is world class and should be the anchor of any trip to Surrey, England.

Walton Heath New Course is not as celebrated as the Old Course but it is still one of the best golf courses in Surrey. The New Course presents a different challenge to the Old with cross hazards featuring prominently. The finishing stretch is a proper test of golf. For instance, the 10th hole measures 202 yards from the tips and is the last one-shot hole on the card.

Bolt Ons

Tandridge Golf Club is a Harry Colt design and one of his most-bunkered golf course. Recent renovations by Tim Lobb have enhanced this Harry Colt classic. Built over the Greensand Ridge, green sites are perched on ledges offering suspenseful approaches and interesting recoveries. A very good value for money option even in high season, you definitely get a lot of bang for your buck.

Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club – Old Course is the only East Sussex based golf course to make the list. Interestingly, Abe Mitchell – the golfer sat atop the Ryder Cup, was an artisan member here! However, What really makes Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club so special though is its’ bunkerless design – a rare course that earns its way into our Needle in a Haystack Collection.
