Welcome to Evalu18’s Best Golf Courses Kent Edition! Some of the UK’s best golf courses are in Kent – a county in the south east of England. The county has an abundance of great golf both inland and links. While most visitors flock to Ireland or Scotland for their links fix, Kent is a worthy contender for your next golf adventure.
Come for The Open Venues
The jewel in the Kent links golf crown is The Open Championship’s home away from home – Royal St George’s Golf Club or Sandwich. A day of foursomes golf at Royal St George’s is an experience that needs to be embraced fully at least once in every golfers life.
Minutes south of Royal St George’s is Open Venue Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club or Deal. A links that features some of the best punch bowls in all of golf, namely the 3rd! Additionally, 6th and 16th holes are also highlights on this storied links.
Moving north of Royal St George’s is another Open Championship Host, Princes Golf Club. The club has recently undergone significant investment. Unsurprisingly, the results are nothing less than spectacular. A 27 hole venue with an excellent set of one-shot holes, it now solidifies Kent as a true golf destination. The on-site accommodation and bar-side putting green makes it the perfect base for the three links golf courses.
If you are willing to make a small trek down the coastline of about an hour and a half, there is the often overlooked Championship Links of Littlestone Golf Club. Designed by the same architect at Royal St George’s, Laidlaw Purves, Alister MacKenzie also worked on the course and his 16th hole is perhaps the highlight.
While Rye Golf Club is not in Kent it would make sense to include it on any trip to this part of England. Considered to be one of the very best links in the world, it is the course which made Harry Colt a golf course architect rather than a lawyer.
The Wild Card
30 minutes north of the cluster of Princes, Royal St George’s and Royal Cinque Ports is the little known Herbert Fowler and Tom Simpson designed North Foreland Golf Club. The front nine on the main course is a quick nine that retains much of the Tom Simpson design hallmarks. However, for some real fun check out the Northcliffe Course. The Northcliffe is the perfect course for a bit of a laugh with some small wagers to make it interesting.
The stretch of golf on the Kent coastline in south east England is one of the best stretches of golf in the world. Three Open Venues provide the foundation for a golf vacation that will stand up to virtually any in the world. Add in Littlestone Golf Club Championship Golf Course, Rye Golf Club & North Foreland Golf Club and this corner of England is the perfect escape of 5-7 days.
