Golf Course Review

Fota Island Resort is found in the south of Ireland and east of the city of Cork. Perhaps more famous for Ireland's only wildlife park, Fota Island is a proper golf resort catering to visitors every whim.

Of the three courses at Fota Island Resort the Deerpark Course is the one to play. The original 18 hole golf course was opened in 1993 and designed by Christy O'Connor and Peter McEvoy. In 1998, Jeff Howes was invited in to prepare and toughen the course to host the Irish Open. Jeff Howes was then invited back in 2007 to add an additional nine holes which are used to create three distinct 18 hole setups.

As with any parkland course in Ireland or the United Kingdom, getting visitors from the links inland is a tall order. However, praise is almost universal with regards to the quality of the golf on offer. The Deerpark Course is perhaps one of the best in Ireland once you move inland.
