Synopsis

The Golf Courses of the British Isles is the best golf course architecture book not about golf course architecture. From Aberdovey to Woking, the grand tour includes Ireland, Wales, England, and Scotland.

Golf Courses of the British Isles 1st Edition

The infamous telltale sign of a rare first edition is the misspelling of Harry Rountree’s name as Harry Rowntree on the front cover. Be aware if you are after a first edition that all 64 of the plates are present and correct. 49 are in colour and 15 in monochrome. As well, there were two bindings in 1910. The dark green with gold gilt is the preferred and more valuable binding.

Various Editions

Numerous editions are available and some are downright cheap. There is no excuse not to buy The Golf Courses of the British Isles. Storey Communications republished it in 1988 (IBSN 9780882664859). It was then re-published in 2007 by Konecky & Konecky (9781568526102).

Harry Rountree Watercolours
